Job Opportunity: Pediatric CVICU Registered Nurse (RN PICU)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)

Job Description
- Work in a new and specialized Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) caring for cardiac patients pre- and post-operation.
- Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate surgical cases.
- Expected availability: 36 hours per week, every other weekend, holidays, and willingness to be on call.
- May be required to float to PICU, Pediatrics, and NICU units.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Specialty: RN PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)
- Required years of experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum experience typical for CVICU/PICU nursing roles (usually 2+ years). No indication of prior travel experience required.
Licenses & Certifications
- Current, valid RN license for Indiana (Nursys verification required within 30 days prior to start).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Must be American Heart Association (AHA) certified.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Must be AHA certified.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - Must be AHA certified.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and NRP Advanced (AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics) preferred but optional.
Additional Required Credentials & Compliance
- Current license and primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment start.
- Completion of various Ascension-specific exams and competencies prior to start and updated every 3 years, including:
- Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80% score)
- Specialty Exam (minimum 80% score)
- Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, etc.)
- EKG Exam (minimum 80% score)
- Safe Sleep training
- Skills Checklist (clinical, updated annually)
- Health and immunization requirements:
- MMR (two vaccines or positive titer, no declinations accepted)
- Varicella (two vaccines or immunity proof, no declinations accepted)
- Tdap (valid within 10 years, no declinations accepted)
- Influenza vaccine (seasonal; exemptions accepted with mask requirement)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
- TB screening (2-step PPD or IGRA, chest X-ray if positive, annual questionnaire)
- Fit test for respiratory protection (preferred prior to start)
- 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter
- Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
- Background and employment verifications including criminal background check, employment verification, EPLS, and professional references.
- Ascension onboarding requirements including education attestation and contract worker onboarding completed onsite.
- Ascension badge photo (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background).
Work Environment & Expectations
- Flexibility to work surgical schedules and float between CVICU, PICU, Pediatrics, and NICU units.
- Availability for every other weekend, holidays, and on-call shifts.
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric critical care nurses with strong cardiovascular ICU skills who are adaptable and able to work in a dynamic, multi-unit environment.
