Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Nights
Location: Anderson, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Job Summary
Provide direct and indirect patient care in a fast-paced, 29-bed Emergency Department. Responsibilities include patient assessment, triage, emergency interventions, medication administration, monitoring clinical status, assisting with trauma and cardiac emergencies, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, timely, and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and triage per department protocols.
- Initiate and manage emergency nursing interventions for critically ill and injured patients.
- Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies safely and accurately.
- Monitor patient condition and respond to clinical changes.
- Assist with emergency procedures, trauma resuscitations, and cardiac emergencies.
- Utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment in high-acuity situations.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, EMS, respiratory therapy, laboratory, radiology, and ancillary staff.
- Adhere to hospital policies, regulatory standards, and infection prevention guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental education activities.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Work Environment
- 29-bed Emergency Department serving patients of all ages.
- Fast-paced, high-acuity clinical setting requiring rapid decision-making and multitasking.
Onboarding and Compliance Requirements
- Verification of current RN license and primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment start.
- Completion of required certifications and exams including:
- Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years).
- Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years).
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years).
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI), 8-hour course, updated every 2 years.
- Health and immunization documentation including:
- MMR (two vaccines or positive titer, no declinations accepted).
- Varicella (two vaccines, serological evidence, or history verified by provider, no declinations accepted).
- Tdap (valid within 10 years, no declinations accepted).
- Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Fit Test for respiratory protection, updated annually.
- 2-Step PPD or IGRA testing for TB, with annual TB questionnaire.
- Statement of good health or physical exam prior to assignment, updated annually.
- Background and credential verifications including:
- Professional references (minimum two).
- Criminal background check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender Registry, and others within 90 days of assignment start.
- Employment and education verifications.
- Drug screening (12-panel) within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.
- Submission of a current driver's license or state ID matching address on file.
- Completion of onboarding attestations and education requirements.
- Submission of a forward-facing badge photo with white or blue background (no alterations).
