Registered Nurse (Step Down Unit)
Location: Anderson, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 07:00 AM – 07:30 PM
Job Summary
Provide specialized nursing care to medically complex patients in a Step-Down/Progressive Care/Med-Telemetry unit. Care involves close monitoring, frequent assessments, and managing patients who require telemetry and specialized interventions but do not meet ICU criteria. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care for patients requiring telemetry, frequent monitoring, and specialized interventions.
- Perform comprehensive assessments: respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and hemodynamic status.
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and lab results; notify providers of changes.
- Administer medications safely, including IV medications per physician orders and policy.
- Manage care for patients with telemetry monitoring, IV drips (cardiac, vasoactive, insulin infusions), central/PICC lines, oxygen therapy, high-flow oxygen, CPAP/BiPAP as appropriate.
- Implement and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, case management, and other disciplines.
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, medications, and discharge instructions.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the EMR.
- Recognize early signs of patient deterioration and escalate care or activate rapid response as needed.
- Adhere to infection prevention, fall precautions, and patient safety standards.
- May float to other medical/surgical units as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum of 1 year of Step-Down nursing experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12.5 hours (07:00 AM – 07:30 PM)

- Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
- Floating to other med/surg units may be required.
- Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and ability to manage complex patient conditions in a fast-paced environment are essential.
