Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Care Unit (MCU)

Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Shift: Night Shift, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (24 hours per week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care to less acute patients awaiting placement to long-term care facilities, with a variety of medical diagnoses.
  • Float between Medical Care Unit and Inpatient Rehab units as needed.
  • Deliver care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Patient populations include Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, Telemetry, and Psychiatric cases.
  • Telemetry experience is preferred.
  • EPIC EMR experience in a similar unit within the last 12 months is required.
  • Occasional on-call availability may be required during low census periods; if called in, must respond and arrive on-site within one hour.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • CPI/MOAB certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current and valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical records system.

Health and Compliance Requirements (Must be current or completed prior to start)

  • COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted).
  • MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
  • Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; declination accepted.
  • Influenza vaccine recommended during season (Sept 1 – March 31); facility declination accepted.
  • TB Test: Negative test within past 2 years (TSPOT, QuantiFERON IGG, or 2-step Mantoux). If prior positive, must provide chest x-ray within 5 years and recent questionnaire.
  • Fit Test for approved respirators (e.g., Moldex 1510, 3M 1860 series) completed prior to start.
  • Health Statement: Physician statement within last 12 months, updated every 4 years.
  • Color Vision Test: Proof within 1 year.
  • Drug Screen: 9-panel within 30 days prior to start (THC not required).
  • Background Check: Within 30 days, including SS trace and county search for last 7 years.
  • Adult and Child Abuse clearance as per state requirements.
  • Education Verification: Highest level verified through third party or combined with diploma/transcripts.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM HHS/OIG checks within 30 days.
  • Skills Checklist: Completed within last 12 months.
  • I-9 Attestation on agency letterhead.
  • OSHA Questionnaire: Completed annually.
  • Driver’s License or State ID: Current and valid.

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; one must be from a supervisor.
  • Resume or professional profile required.
  • Completion of pre-orientation computer-based learning (CBL) acknowledgment.
  • Epic Registration Acknowledgment Form signed and uploaded after registration.

Notes

  • This position involves working with patients who may have psychiatric issues and telemetry monitoring.
  • The nurse must maintain high professional standards and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • The role requires flexibility to float between units and occasional on-call availability.

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
