Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - PACU

Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM


Job Description

  • Provide post-anesthesia nursing care during the immediate post-anesthesia period (Phase I).
  • Transition patients to Phase II care, inpatient care setting, or intensive care for continued care.
  • Ensure safe transition from anesthetized state to less acute interventions.
  • On-call responsibilities with a 30-minute response time.
    • On-call approximately 1-2 weekdays depending on weekend on-call schedule.
    • Weekend call rotation typically every 4th or 5th weekend.
  • Must self-study telemetry strips upon acceptance; a basic dysrhythmia test will be administered during the first week and must be passed to work in the Emergency Department.
  • Previous EPIC experience in a similar unit within the last 12 months is required.

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license (Primary source verification required within 30 days of start).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC accepted.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), with PACU experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

  • Drug screen (9-panel, excluding THC) within 30 days of start.
  • Skills checklist completed within the last 12 months.
  • COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted).
  • MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
  • Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
  • Tdap valid within 10 years; declination accepted.
  • Fit test completed prior to start (approved mask types specified).
  • TB test: Negative test within past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG) or documentation if history of positive test.
  • Health statement from a physician within the last 12 months.
  • Current driver’s license or state ID (valid throughout assignment).
  • Background check within 30 days of start including SS trace and county search for last 7 years.
  • Iowa Adult and Child Abuse clearance (state requirement).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start.
  • References: 2 professional references required, including 1 supervisor.
  • Resume or profile submission required.
  • I-9 attestation on agency letterhead.
  • Color vision verification.
  • OSHA questionnaire completed by candidate.
  • Epic Registration Acknowledgement Form signed and uploaded after registration.

Additional Notes

  • On-call schedule requires flexibility and timely response.
  • Telemetry knowledge and dysrhythmia competency are critical.
  • This is a travel assignment with a 13-week contract length.
