Job Description

• Maintain a professional image and excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
• Assess patient needs based on history, observation, physical examination, and data analysis.
• Provide nursing interventions consistent with the Plan of Care and physician’s prescribed medical plans.
• Conduct hourly rounds using the 4 P’s (Pain, Position, Personal needs, and Placement of items).
• Foster a caring, compassionate, and respectful environment for patients, families, and visitors.
• Use appropriate health and safety equipment to protect patients and staff.
• Care for central lines, chest tubes, Foley and suprapubic catheters, pressure ulcers, restraints, and patients at high risk for falls using standard procedures.
• Precept and mentor novice employees to contribute to department performance.
• Support department growth through hospital-system initiatives and evidence-based nursing practices.
• Pursue continued professional growth through goal setting and educational opportunities.
• Understand and ensure proper storage and safety of medications, including large volume IVs and pre-packaged kits.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Credentials and Compliance for Onboarding

• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA only)
• Licenses:

  • Nursys verification (within 30 days of start)
  • Primary source verification of nursing license/certificate (state-specific registry)
• Personal Health History:

  • MMR: Proof of 2 immunizations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of 3 vaccinations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Proof of 2 immunizations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): 1st within 1 year, 2nd within 30 days of start; negative Q-Gold or Tspot within 90 days prior to start also accepted
• Professional:

  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • Social Security Card
  • Criminal Background Check (county, statewide, national, OIG, EPLS, OFAC, NSOP, SS Trace, education verification; done within 60 days of start covering last 7 years, updated annually)
  • Employment Verification (last 5 years)
• Testing and Checklists:

  • 10 panel drug screen completed within 30 days of start (rapid drug screen not accepted)
  • Skills checklist (clinical only, completed prior to start, updated annually)
• Other:

  • Resume/Profile submission required prior to submission
  • Confirmation of assignment form required

Optional/Seasonal Requirements

• Fit Test (required for travelers, to be completed within a year of start)
• Influenza Vaccine (required September through April; medical/religious exemptions considered case-by-case)
• Annual Negative PPD (if 2 step PPD not done within past year)
• Annual TB Questionnaire
• Positive PPD with negative chest X-ray (X-ray within 90 days of start)
