Description
Certified Surgical Technician (CST)
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Job Summary
- Work under surgeon supervision to facilitate safe and effective invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures.
- Ensure operating room safety, proper equipment function, and patient safety throughout procedures.
- Prepare and maintain sterile instruments, sutures, and equipment necessary for surgeries.
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, draping, and establishing sterile fields.
- Perform initial and ongoing instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with circulator.
- Participate in surgical site and patient verification during time-out procedures.
- Prepare and pass off specimens as appropriate.
- Assist in lifting, turning, and positioning patients using proper body mechanics.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment and assist with terminal cleaning of instruments and rooms.
- Use standard precautions and appropriate personal protective equipment when handling hazardous substances.
- Demonstrate competency in emergency management, infection control, communication, and perioperative patient care.
Required Qualifications
- CVOR Technologist experience within the last year, with a minimum of 1 year of experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Certified Surgical Technician certification (NBSTSA certification required; only recognized certification in South Carolina).
- Valid Driver's License.

- Must maintain professional image and excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
- Flexibility, punctuality, and willingness to learn in the surgical environment are essential.
- Competency checklist includes assigned access control, emergency management, environment safety, infection control, communication, and operative patient care.
- Fit test for respirators is required for travelers with specific make/model within one year of start (optional but recommended).
- Influenza vaccine is required during September through April unless a medical or religious exemption is provided with appropriate documentation.
- Annual TB questionnaire and additional TB-related documentation may be required depending on screening results.
