Position Overview

• Unit: Operating Room – Surgical Technician
• Setting: Level II Trauma; complex community hospital
• Shift:

  • Days: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Evening rotations: 1:00 PM – 11:30 PM (1-2 shifts per 4-week cycle)
  • Weekend rotation: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with call from 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (1 weekend per 4 weeks)
  • Call: 2-3 weekday calls per 4 weeks; no night call required
• Experience Required: Minimum 1-2 years of OR experience
• Clinician to Patient Ratio: 1:1
• Patient Population: Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric
• Bed Count: 15
• Daily Census: Approximately 30-40 patients
• EMR System: EPIC
• Floating: Not required
• Rotating Shifts: Yes, approximately 2-3 shifts every 4 weeks
• Call Requirement: Surgical Technicians must take weekend and weekday evening call

Required Certifications & Credentials

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – NBSTSA or NCCT certification required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA, Red Cross, CHSF, or Military accepted (AHA preferred)
• License/Certificate Verification – Primary source verification required within 30 days of start date; MA Conditional Licenses not accepted
• N95 Fit Test – Must be current within 365 days and updated annually; no religious exemptions
• Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – Documentation of vaccines or proof of immunity required
• Tuberculosis (TB) Test – Skin test or blood test within 3 months of start date, updated if >6 month break
• Health Statement – Physician-signed statement within 365 days of start date, updated if >6 month break
• Respirator Medical Clearance (RMC) Attestation – Required prior to fit testing
• Criminal Background Checks:

  • MGB Criminal Background Check (including 7-year work/school history)
  • Massachusetts CORI check
  • National Sex Offender Registry check
  • Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid)
• Education Verification – Highest level of education must be verified
• Social Security Number Trace – Required with criminal background check

Preferred / Optional Credentials

• Hepatitis B Vaccination or Immunity Proof
• Influenza Vaccine – Required during flu season (Sept 15 – April 30), no exemptions
• Tdap Vaccine – Preferred, updated within 10 years
• Positive PPD Follow-up – Negative chest x-ray documentation if applicable

Summary

This role is ideal for Certified Surgical Technicians with at least 1-2 years of OR experience who are comfortable working rotating day and evening shifts with weekend and call responsibilities in a Level II trauma community hospital setting. The position requires multiple certifications, health screenings, and background checks to comply with hospital and state regulations.

Note: No floating or night call required. The patient population is diverse, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
