Job Details

• Unit: Operating Room – Surgical Technician
• Setting: Level II Trauma; complex community hospital
• Shift:

  • Days: 7:00 am – 5:30 pm, with 1-2 weekend rotations per 4-week schedule
  • Evenings: 1:00 pm – 11:30 pm, 1-2 rotations per 4-week cycle
  • Call: 2-3 weekday calls and 3 weekday calls per 4-week schedule; weekend call rotation (7:00 am – 3:30 pm shift and 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm call) every 1 of 4 weeks
  • No night call required
• Experience Required: Minimum 1-2 years of Operating Room experience
• Clinician to Patient Ratio: 1:1
• Patient Population: Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric
• Bed Count: 15
• Daily Census: Approximately 30-40 patients
• EMR System: EPIC
• Floating: Not required
• Rotating Shifts: Yes, approximately 2-3 shifts every 4 weeks
• Call Requirement: Surgical Technicians are expected to take weekend and weekday evening call
• Certifications Required: Surgical Tech Certification (NBSTSA or NCCT only)
• Cardiac Monitoring: Not performed by Surgical Techs (no EKG or Telemetry required)

Required Credentials & Compliance

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST): Required for onboarding
• Basic Life Support (BLS): Required for onboarding (AHA, Red Cross, CHSF, or Military accepted; AHA preferred)
• License/Certificate Verification: Primary source verification required within 30 days of start date; MA Conditional Licenses not accepted
• Fit Test: N95 respirator fit test within 365 days of start date, updated annually; no religious exemptions
• MMR Vaccination or Immunity: Documentation of required vaccines or proof of immunity
• Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Sept 15 – April 30); no exemptions allowed
• TB Test: Documentation of TB skin test or negative blood test within 3 months of start date, updated if >6 month break
• Health Statement: Physician statement within 365 days of start date, updated if >6 month break
• Criminal Background Check: Within 45 days prior to start, including county and international searches if applicable
• Massachusetts CORI Check: Within 30 days prior to start, updated if >6 month break
• Resume: Required for submission, including past 7 years of work experience with city and state
• References: Two recent references required, at least one supervisor or above in skillset
• Skills Checklist: Required for submission
• Confirmation of Assignment/POI Form: Required for onboarding and assignment extensions
• Education Verification: Verified through background check company
• SSN Trace: Required with criminal check, covering past 7 years
• National Sex Offender Check: Within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Exclusion Checks: Within 30 days of start and annually, including OIG, GSA, MassHealth, and NH Medicaid lists
• Respirator Medical Clearance (RMC) Attestation: Required if fit test is required
• Candidate Submission Coversheet: Required for submission

Optional / Preferred

• Hepatitis B Vaccination or Immunity: Strongly preferred
• Tdap Vaccine: Preferred within last 10 years
• Positive PPD with Negative Chest X-Ray: Required if applicable
• TB Symptom Survey: Required if positive PPD, updated annually

This position offers a dynamic OR environment with rotating shifts and call responsibilities, requiring a certified and experienced surgical technician comfortable with pediatric through geriatric patient populations in a trauma-level community hospital setting.
