Job Description

Provide nursing care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Ascension Saint Alexius Medical Center.


Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Must be AHA certified
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Must be AHA certified
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA/American Academy of Pediatrics certified
  • Nursys Verification – Within 30 days prior to start; complete FACIS Questionnaire if disciplinary actions exist
  • Current Nursing License – Primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Driver's License/State ID – Must be valid and match address requirements

Required Exams & Competencies

  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam – Minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Specialty Exam – Minimum 80% or national benchmark, updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Color Vision Test – Completed prior to start and updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Core Competencies – Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within a year and updated yearly
  • Ascension EKG Exam – Passing score of at least 80%, updated as per latest edition
  • Ascension Cerner Test-Out – Required for electronic health record competency
  • Ascension Skills Checklist – Clinical skills checklist completed within one year of start and updated annually

Onboarding & Professional Requirements

  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding – Completed onsite
  • Ascension Biometric Consent
  • Ascension Nova StatStrip – Pre-hire modules for non-allied positions
  • Ascension Criminal Background Check – Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) – Run within 90 days of start
  • Ascension Education Verification – Verification of education relevant to clinical work within 90 days prior to start
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment – Provided upon initial assignment and each extension
  • Ascension 2 Professional References – At least two professional references required
  • Ascension Employment Verification – Third-party verification for past 7 years

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B – Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Varicella – Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) – Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) – TB testing within required timeframes; annual TB questionnaire
  • Fit Test – Required annually; specific mask types required for certain states
  • Health Statement – Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen – Completed within 30 days prior to start and updated annually
  • Influenza Vaccine – Optional; exemptions accepted with mask requirement during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • Positive PPD - Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire – Optional based on TB status

Additional Notes

  • A forward-facing badge photo with a white or blue background is required.
  • Resume/profile must be submitted and verified.
  • Completion of all required documentation and exams is mandatory prior to or at onboarding.
  • Some checklists and attestations must be uploaded by the agency or unit leader.

This position is ideal for experienced PICU RNs who meet the above credentialing and health requirements and are interested in a travel nursing opportunity within a reputable hospital system.
