Job Opportunity: Travel RN Medical/Surgical

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Facility: INEVA St Vincent Evansville (Ascension Health)
Unit: Post-Surgical Unit (22 beds)
Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Key Requirements & Credentials

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current RN License with primary source verification within 30 days prior to assignment start
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Must be American Heart Association (AHA) certified
  • Nursys Verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Driver’s License/State ID - Must be valid and match address requirements

Exams & Testing (Must be completed prior to start and updated every 3 years)

  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts)
  • Ascension Medical Surgical Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts)
  • Ascension EKG Exam (minimum 80%, max 2 attempts)
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80%, updated yearly)
  • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills, updated annually)

Onboarding & Professional Requirements

  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite)
  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation (6 hours pre-hire education)
  • Ascension Profile (resume or professional profile)
  • At least two professional references prior to first assignment
  • Criminal Background Check including Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender, and others (updated annually or if break in service > 90 days)
  • Employment Verification for past 7 years (updated annually or if break in service > 90 days)
  • Education Verification relevant to clinical work (within 90 days of start)
  • Confirmation of Assignment documentation for each assignment and extension
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) check within 90 days of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Proof of two MMR vaccines or positive IGG titer (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or immunity proof (no declinations accepted)
  • Tdap vaccination valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Fit Test for respiratory protection (preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite)
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) testing for TB with annual questionnaire
  • Positive PPD requires negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire
  • Health Statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
  • Ascension Color Vision test (completed prior to start and updated every 3 years)
  • Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted with mask requirement

Optional

  • Ascension Unit Specific Checklist (uploaded by unit leader within a week of start)
  • Influenza Vaccine Exemption/Declination (mask required if declined)
  • Hiring Manager Evaluation (post-assignment)

Summary

This is a travel RN position in a post-surgical unit at Ascension Health’s INEVA St Vincent Evansville facility. The role requires a strong set of clinical competencies, current licensure, and multiple Ascension-specific exams and verifications. Immunizations and health screenings are strictly enforced with no declinations accepted for several vaccines. Onboarding includes both online and onsite components, with thorough background and employment verifications.

This opportunity is ideal for experienced Medical/Surgical RNs who meet the credentialing and compliance requirements and are comfortable working in a fast-paced post-surgical environment with a patient ratio of 1:4-5.
