Job Opportunity: Travel RN Medical/Surgical

Key Requirements & Credentials

Licenses & Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Must be current and valid.
  • Nursys Verification: Within 30 days prior to start; disciplinary actions require FACIS Questionnaire.
  • License/Certificate Verification: Current license and primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • Driver's License/State ID: Must be valid, not expired, and address must match requirements.

Exams & Testing

  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam: Minimum 80% score, completed prior to start, updated every 3 years.
  • Ascension Medical Surgical Exam: Minimum 80% score, completed prior to start, updated every 3 years.
  • Ascension Color Vision Test: Completed prior to start, updated every 3 years.
  • Ascension Core Competencies: Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, updated yearly.
  • Ascension EKG Exam: Minimum 80% score, completed prior to start; updated as new editions are released.
  • Ascension Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist, completed within one year of start and updated annually.
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen: Completed within 30 days prior to start, updated annually; includes 12 specific drugs.

Health & Immunizations

  • MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted.
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • Influenza Vaccine: Optional; flu season Oct 1 - Mar 31; declinations accepted with mask requirement.
  • Positive PPD/Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire: Required; must provide recent test results and questionnaire.
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): Required within specified timeframes prior to start.
  • Varicella: Proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted.
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted.
  • Fit Test: Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite; updated annually.
  • Health Statement: Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.

Professional & Employment Verification

  • Ascension Profile (Resume): Required for submission.
  • Professional References: At least two qualifying references prior to first assignment.
  • Criminal Background Check: Includes Social Security Trace, Employment Verification, OIG Search, National Sex Offender; completed within 30 days of first assignment and updated annually.
  • Employment Verification: Third-party verification for past seven years; updated annually.
  • Education Verification: Verification of relevant education within 90 days of start; official transcripts required if verification fails.
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System): Run within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service > 90 days.
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment: Provided upon initial assignment and updates with extensions.

Onboarding & Additional Requirements

  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation: Completed pre-hire education attestation required.
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding: Completed onsite prior to start.
  • Ascension Badge Photo: Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations.
  • Ascension Exit Survey: Optional survey to be completed within 72 hours after assignment completion.

This position is ideal for experienced Medical/Surgical RNs who meet Ascension Health’s credentialing and compliance requirements and are comfortable working a weekend blocked schedule in a renal/diabetic unit setting.
