Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Belleville, Illinois
Facility: Memorial Hospital, BJC HealthCare
Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Shift Details

  • 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
  • 3 shifts per week
  • Every other weekend required

Unit & Patient Population

  • High risk cardiology floor
  • Patients include those on cardiac drips, post TAVR, post CABG, and VATS
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
  • Bedside shift report and hourly rounding required

Experience & Licensure

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Illinois RN license required (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Local candidates not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
  • Return to office restrictions: no greater than 7 days

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Cardiac drip management
  • Sheath pulls
  • Central line management

  • Floating required within inpatient units at both campuses
  • Block scheduling not accommodated

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS and BLS (AHA only; completion certificates accepted up to 1 month)
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM certifications as applicable (check unit requirements)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit-specific competency exam (updated annually)
  • Color blind testing (online) required

Health & Immunization

  • Physical exam within 1 year
  • Fit mask test (annual, N95 respirators required)
  • Tdap vaccine or declination (every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (with specific timing requirements)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as per unit requirements
  • Drug testing within 1 year, including specific drug panels
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season

Background & Legal Checks

  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM checks quarterly
  • Employment application and education verification required
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
  • State-specific exclusion and registry checks as applicable

  • HIPAA Acknowledgement (annual)
  • Latex Allergy Questionnaire (annual)
  • Confidentiality Form (annual)
  • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual, must score 80%+)
  • Hepatitis B declination form (annual)
  • TB Questionnaire (annual)
  • Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code policies (must review and sign prior to start)
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to perform all required clinical skills including cardiac drip management, sheath pulls, and central line care.
  • Floating within inpatient units is mandatory.
  • Weekend shifts are required every other weekend.
  • No local candidates accepted; must be willing to travel beyond 75 miles radius.
  • All documentation and certifications must be current and compliant with BJC HealthCare and Memorial Hospital policies.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with high-acuity cardiology patients and night shift work in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital.
