Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
Unit: Neuro IMC (Intermediate Care)
Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (36 or 48 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years nursing experience
• At least 1 prior travel assignment required
• Pending DC RN license accepted, but must have DC license in hand before start date
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Float requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
• DC RN Licensure (must be current prior to start)

Preferred Certifications:

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)

Skills & Competencies

• Experience with Cerner electronic charting system
• Telemetry and Cardiac Telemetry monitoring
• PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown unit experience
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Feeding tube care and management
• Phlebotomy
• Peripheral line care/management, PICC line management
• Starting IVs
• Tracheostomy management
• Isolation precautions
• Wound care and wound vac management

Orientation & Training

• Orientation includes 4-hour class, 8-hour modules, and two 12-hour clinical shifts
• Independent practice begins on Day 4
• Must be willing and able to accept assignments including COVID-19 patients

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform duties without accommodations and free from communicable disease
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the past year (or annual questionnaire if history of positive TB)
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - documentation of 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Varicella - documentation of 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
• Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask use during patient encounters
• N95 fit test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)

Background & Verification

• Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Employment verification: minimum 2 years experience in past 7 years, including at least 1 travel assignment
• Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience in the last 3 years
• Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license verification
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to and during employment

Testing & Competency Exams

• Medication/pharmacology competency exam (must score 80% or higher) within 3 years of start
• Color blindness testing (online or in-person) required
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (passing score 80%) within 3 years; required for telemetry and critical care units
• Other unit-specific certifications may be required based on assignment

This position is ideal for experienced travel nurses with neuro or telemetry experience who meet licensure and certification requirements and are comfortable working night shifts in a fast-paced acute care teaching hospital environment.
