Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool)

Job Description

• Position: Pediatric Critical Care float pool RN
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM), totaling 36 hours/week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend plus holiday rotation
• Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3
• Float Requirement: RN will float within scope to all Pediatric units in the hospital (CVPICU, NICU, PICU)
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years Pediatric ICU experience
• First-time travelers accepted if experience requirements are met
• License Required: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
• Certifications Required: BLS, PALS (American Heart Association only)
• Preferred Experience: ECMO, CRRT
• Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
• Local Radius: 60 miles; locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
• Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during June-November (peak in August-September). Confirm availability before accepting assignments during this period.

Required Certifications & Licenses

• BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA certification required
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): AHA certification required for all pediatric units (except Pediatric OR)
• South Carolina RN License or Multi-State Compact License
• Additional Preferred Certifications:

  • ACLS (not required for pediatric units)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – not required for ER RNs
• NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
• Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
• Other Certifications: May include medication competency exams and unit-specific competencies

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years Pediatric ICU experience required
• Experience with ECMO and CRRT preferred
• Ability to float across multiple pediatric critical care units
• Must be able to work night shifts and rotate weekends/holidays

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
• Immunizations and titers required or proof of vaccination/declination for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
• Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
• Annual TB questionnaire completion
• 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
• COVID-19 vaccinations highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Aug-April) or medical/religious exemption accepted (no declinations)
• Fit testing for N95 masks required annually
• Color blindness test required prior to start
• Background checks including criminal, sex offender registry, employment verification, and education verification
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Employment application with full work history, including PTO and contract assignments

Orientation & Facility Specifics

• Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to start; must be done on a computer, not a phone
• First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay platform access provided after clearance
• Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into OurDay platform
• Passport-style badge photo required before start
• Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment (not typical for pediatric critical care)

Additional Notes

• All required documentation (licenses, certifications, health records) must be current and valid at start date
• Certifications expiring within 30 days of start are not accepted; renewal or scheduled course required before start
• Facility may call off shifts but guarantees minimum hours as noted
• Travelers must submit all requested time-off (RTO) at time of application; approval based on unit needs
