Registered Nurse (Step-down Unit) - Travel/Contract
Location: Amarillo, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts
- Must have charge nurse experience; traveler required to work charge as needed
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Travel experience not required
- Epic experience within the last 6 months required
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays if needed
- No local candidates; must be willing to travel within a 50-mile radius

- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- State Nursing License verification (Primary source online verification)
- NURSYS Verification (for RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
Required Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
- Color Blind Testing (online acceptable)
- Competency Exam (minimum 80% or meet/exceed Angoff score)
- Annual Core Testing (for subcontractors)
Background & Documentation Requirements
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check upon hire
- HHS/OIG check upon hire
- Education verification (highest level of education)
- Transcript or diploma may be accepted temporarily if education verification is delayed
- Fingerprinting (time-sensitive for New Mexico placements only)
- Complete employment application/resume
- 7-year work history verification
- Unit-specific skills checklist (annual)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (specific mask types accepted)
- Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; additional requirements if positive
- TB questionnaire within 90 days of start (for positive TB results), renewed annually
- Immunizations or positive titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination accepted)
- Varicella (chickenpox)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, etc.)
- Additional onsite drug screen during orientation (only one attempt allowed; failure results in cancellation)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination (dose 1 and fully vaccinated) or approved medical/religious exemption required; declinations not accepted

- Must be able to work charge nurse shifts as needed
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with recent Epic experience who are comfortable working night shifts and taking on charge nurse responsibilities in a step-down unit setting.
