Unit Description

• Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), also known as PODS
• Patient diagnoses include:

  • Abdominal Revascularization
  • Pneumonia
  • Acute Respiratory Failure (ARDS, Pulmonary Edema, Pulmonary Embolus)
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Sepsis, Septic Shock, SIRS
  • Acute Renal Failure
  • Multiple Organ System Failure
  • Stroke, Intracranial Hemorrhage
  • Post Craniotomy
  • CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident)
  • Liver Failure
  • Hypertension, Hypotension
  • Pancreatitis
  • Post Neuroradiology Interventional Procedures

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Important Notes

• Flu season runs from October 1, 2024 through March 31, 2025.
• Flu vaccine exemptions or declinations are accepted; however, candidates must wear a mask at all times during flu season.

Required Credentials & Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – Must be AHA certified
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – Must be AHA certified
• Nursys Verification – Within 30 days prior to start; disciplinary actions require FACIS Questionnaire
• Current Nursing License and Primary Source Verification – Within 30 days prior to start
• Ascension Resume/Profile – Required for submission
• Ascension Core Competencies – Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; completed within 1 year and updated yearly with minimum 80% score
• NIH Certification – Updated yearly or every 2 years depending on group
• Ascension EKG Exam – Passing score of at least 80%, two attempts allowed
• Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
• Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding – Completed onsite
• Ascension Nova StatStrip – Pre-hire modules for non-allied positions
• Ascension Cerner Test-Out – Cerner test results and training checklist with signed attestation
• Ascension Badge Photo – Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
• Fit Test – Required for all travelers; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite; updated annually
• Hepatitis B – Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination
• Influenza Vaccine – Required during flu season; exemptions accepted with mask requirement
• Positive PPD or IGRA (TB Test), Negative Chest X-Ray, and Annual TB Questionnaire – Must provide positive IGRA or PPD results, chest x-ray within 1 year, and completed TB questionnaire; updated annually
• Health Statement – Statement of good health or completed physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
• Driver’s License/State ID – Must be current and valid, matching address requirements
• 2 Step PPD or IGRA – Within 1 year and 30 days of start; TB questionnaire updated annually
• Varicella – Documented proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted
• Tdap – Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted
• Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen – Within 30 days prior to start; includes testing for 12 specified drugs; must include MRO review if applicable
• Ascension Education Verification – Verification of education relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
• Ascension Confirmation of Assignment – Provided upon initial assignment and updates with extensions
• Ascension Employment Verification – Third-party verification for past 7 years; updated annually or if break in service > 90 days
• Ascension Criminal Background Check – Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually or if break in service > 90 days
• Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) – Run within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service > 90 days
• Ascension Skills Checklist – Clinical skills checklist completed within 1 year of start and updated annually

Optional Credentials

• Ascension Influenza Vaccine Exemption/Declination – Optional but requires mask wearing if declined
• Ascension Exit Survey – Completed at assignment end
• Ascension Unit Specific Checklist – Optional for onboarding, uploaded by unit leader

This position requires thorough compliance with credentialing, health, and competency requirements prior to and during the assignment.
