Registered Nurse (Stepdown ICU RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Orangeburg, South Carolina
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital

Position Details
- Specialty: Stepdown ICU RN
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 PM - 7:15 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, within scope to like units/sister facilities
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Licensing
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year, 2 years preferred
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
- License Required: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be active prior to start
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Certifications Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
- Special Competencies:
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Telemetry competency required
- Cardiac telemetry experience required
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Community hospital experience preferred
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Block Schedule: May be requested but not guaranteed
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks

- First Day Instructions (FDI) provided after clearance

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering last 7 years
- SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Required (diploma/transcripts accepted as placeholder)
- Licensure Verification:
- Primary source verification of active, unencumbered SC RN license
- NURSYS verification required
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers
- Photo for Badge: Clear, frontal passport-style photo with solid light background
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Vaccinations:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
- Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccine highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be needed for low titers
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use (RespSafety questionnaire)
- Fit Mask Test: Conducted onsite during orientation
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Competency exam required for operating room (OR) if applicable
- Color blindness test required prior to start
Additional Notes
- Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June-November), especially August and September.
- Facility allows floating to meet staffing needs within similar units.
- Radiation badge required for certain specialties (not applicable for this RN role unless assigned to specific units).
This position offers an opportunity to work in a well-staffed acute care hospital with a focus on cardiac telemetry and stepdown ICU care, requiring strong clinical skills, relevant certifications, and flexibility in scheduling.
