Speech Therapist Position

Location: Cheraw, South Carolina
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Maintain a professional image and excellent customer relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
• Evaluate patients based on history, observation, and diagnostic data.
• Develop individualized plans of care considering patient learning styles, therapeutic needs, and psycho-social, cultural, and spiritual factors.
• Provide therapy for expressive/receptive language disorders, cognitive disorders, reading disorders, and dysphagia. Document progress with measurable, functional goals.
• Independently maintain patient records, including evaluations, re-evaluations, daily notes, charges, and discharge summaries within hospital timelines.
• Foster a caring, compassionate, and respectful environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff.
• Utilize Service Excellence Standards and handle customer complaints promptly using service recovery approaches.
• Contribute to department performance through professional development, including supervision of provisionally licensed clinicians, coordination of students/internships, competency training, mentoring, and program leadership as assigned.
• Perform job duties productively and efficiently.
• Pursue continued professional growth by setting goals and participating in educational offerings; maintain CEUs for ASHA and SC LLR.
• Communicate effectively with physicians and medical personnel regarding treatment, progress, recommendations, and order clarifications.
• Adhere to the American Speech Language and Hearing Code of Ethics, Preferred Practice Patterns, SC State LLR guidelines, and hospital policies.
• Ensure patient confidentiality and proper maintenance of Protected Health Information.
• Use appropriate health and safety equipment to protect patients, self, and staff.

Required Credentials and Compliance

• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA only)
  • CCC (Certificate of Clinical Competence)

• Licenses:

  • Valid state license/certificate with primary source verification
  • Driver's License or State ID

• Health Requirements:

  • MMR: Proof of 2 immunizations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of 3 vaccinations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Proof of 2 immunizations or titer with lab printout (no declinations accepted)
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot): 1st within 1 year, 2nd within 30 days of start; negative Q-Gold or Tspot acceptable if within 90 days prior to start
  • Social Security Card copy required
  • Drug Screen: 10 panel drug screening completed within 30 days of start (rapid screen not accepted)

• Background and Verification:

  • Criminal Background Check covering last 7 years including county, statewide, national, OIG, EPLS, OFAC, NSOP, SS Trace; done within 60 days of start and updated annually
  • Employment Verification for past 5 years
  • Skills Checklist: Clinical checklist completed prior to start and updated annually
  • Confirmation of Assignment: Standard form required

• Optional/Seasonal:

  • Fit Test (required for travelers, optional)
  • Influenza Vaccine (required Sept-April, exemptions considered case-by-case)
  • Annual Negative PPD, Annual TB Questionnaire, Positive PPD with Negative Chest X-Ray documentation (optional depending on individual status)

Summary

This is a 13-week contract Speech Therapist role requiring strong clinical skills in language and cognitive disorders, excellent communication, and adherence to professional and ethical standards. Candidates must meet comprehensive credentialing, health, and background requirements prior to onboarding.
