Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Specialty: Registered Nurse

Job Description
- Unit Type: Acuity adaptable unit with patients ranging from Medical-Surgical (MS) level to Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown/ICU level of care.
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4-6 depending on acuity and patient type; can fluctuate with unit needs (4-bed unit that can expand to 8-10 beds).
- Float Position: RN must have PCU experience and be comfortable floating to an inpatient PCU unit.
- Boarding Unit: Patients come from the Emergency Department (ED) and are boarded until discharge or transfer to inpatient units. Patients are generally stable; unstable patients are moved out.
- Team Nursing: RN will work in a team nursing model with LPNs and CNAs; must be comfortable with delegation and collaboration.
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts only.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
- Cerner experience required.
- Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certification.
- On-call: Not required.
- Locals: Not accepted.
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Guaranteed Hours: Options for 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts totaling 36-48 hours per week.
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Unit Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing – Ishihara exam or equivalent with 100% minimum score
Required Background & Documentation
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background Check within 90 days including:
- 7 years SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education Verification (highest applicable education)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Transcript/Diploma (official copy showing degree and graduation date)
- Employment Application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment (charge, manager, supervisor, or above)
- Skills Checklist within 12 months and annually updated
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months (approved respirators only)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
Additional Notes
- Must be comfortable working in a dynamic acuity environment with fluctuating patient ratios and team nursing models.
- This position does not accept first-time travelers.
- Must be willing to work required holidays and every other weekend.
- Cerner electronic health record experience is mandatory.
This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced RNs comfortable with acuity adaptable units, team nursing, and floating between boarding and PCU units.
