Job Opportunity: Clinical Educator RN - PACU

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Role: Clinical Educator RN for Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 40 hours weekly
  • Coverage includes Pre-Op, Discharge Unit, PACU, and Procedural PACU
  • Will work with an educator partner in the area

Required Qualifications

  • Licensure & Certifications:
    • Registered Nurse (RN) license required
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required (AHA or ARC)
    • BSN required
    • ACLS and specialty certifications preferred
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years clinical PACU experience
    • 2 years educator experience in a teaching hospital setting required
    • 5-7 years clinical experience in specialty preferred
    • Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
  • Skills:
    • Conscious Sedation and Telemetry experience required
    • EMR experience with Cerner required

Education

  • MSN preferred

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Flu vaccine required (or approved medical/religious exemption)
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask-wearing for patient encounters
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within the past year, with annual updates if applicable
  • Drug screening within 90 days of start, excluding marijuana, with annual updates
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete on-site if needed)
  • Required immunizations or titers: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap (within 10 years preferred)

Background & Compliance

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification of highest degree required by position
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to and during employment
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information
  • Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually

Competency Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 3 years, passing score 80%+
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 3 years, passing score 80%+ (with remediation process if needed)
  • Color blindness testing (online or in-person) required
  • Other competency exams as required by unit

Additional Notes

  • Valid driver's license required if driving is an essential job function
  • Facility-specific orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required annually
  • Facility modules (SITELS) must be completed prior to hire date; may take multiple hours
  • Photo for badge must meet specific criteria (clear, centered, no glare, solid background)
