Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiac ICU (Nights)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position in Cardiac ICU, night shifts
- Critical care experience required, including experience with PA catheters
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Float requirement: ICU and PCU units
- Call not required
- Accepting candidates with 1.5 years experience if from a Level 1 trauma center or large hospital
- Open to first-time travelers
- Patient ratio approximately 1:2 (day, night, weekends)

Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA or ARC)
- BLS (AHA or ARC)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric specialties, NICU)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (check unit description):
- PALS (not required for Pediatric Stepdown)
- NRP (required for NICU)
- CHEMO (for Oncology units)
- TNCC (required/preferred for ER and Pediatric ER)
- EFM (required for Labor & Delivery)
- CPI (required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health, preferred for ER)
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required within 12 months, 85% passing score)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, 80% passing score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, all ICU units except Neuro ICU, SICU, NICU)
Background and Verification Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check (must be updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (required within 30 days of start)
- Education verification (highest level required)
- Foreign equivalency evaluation required for internationally educated RNs
- State license primary source verification (CT license must be applied for within 72 hours of start)
- NURSYS license verification (within 30 days of start)
- Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps over 90 days
- Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech and specialty roles
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (exemptions possible with medical/religious documentation)
- Tdap vaccination preferred for Pediatric, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum (declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (TB questionnaire required annually)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity via positive titer or vaccinations
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination/declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccines highly preferred but not required (effective 5/16/2025)

- CLABSI Prevention Training and Attestation
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training and Attestation
- Language Services Training and Attestation
- CAUTI Education Training and Attestation (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education and Attestation
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training and Attestation
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training and Attestation
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training and Attestation
- Patient Bedside Rounding Module and Attestation (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness Training and Attestation
- AME Blood Administration Module (annual update required, except Case Managers, Behavioral Health, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module (must be completed by start date)
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for most clinical roles except Home Health and some techs)
- ED Handbook (required for ED/ER RNs)
- eCart Training Module (required for most RNs except Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required for RNs and Allied Health as of 5/31/2024)
- EPIC Testing or Training (required for RNs with Epic experience)
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity Level I Trauma Center with a supportive environment for first-time travelers and those with critical care experience. Compliance with extensive credentialing, health, and training requirements is mandatory.
