Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Belleville, Illinois
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital (Magnet Hospital)
Unit: Cardiac Telemetry Unit
Position Details
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts
- Schedule: Every other weekend required
- Start Date: 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance, biweekly starts
- Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Floating: Required within scope to all inpatient units at both campuses
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
- On-call: Not required
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
Unit & Work Environment
- Fast-paced cardiac unit
- Responsibilities include managing critical care cardiac drips, sheath pulls, and central line management
- Must perform hourly rounding and bedside shift reports with all patients
- Total staffed beds: 40 on unit, 222 in facility
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color: Navy
- Parking: Free
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) – check unit-specific requirements
- CPI or MAB (Crisis Prevention Institute or Management of Assaultive Behavior) if applicable
- State License verification and NURSYS verification required
- IV Certification not required for Illinois facilities (required for Missouri LPNs/LVNs)
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required (Driver’s license for Home Health positions)
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including:
- Statewide searches
- Nationwide and international searches if applicable
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
- Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
- State-specific exclusion and sanction list checks for Illinois and Missouri
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include a full panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing annually (N95 respirators required)
- Immunizations and health documentation:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (required every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
- Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)
- Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)
- HIPAA Acknowledgement signed prior to start (annual update)
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire (annual update)
- Confidentiality form (annual update)
- Regulatory Compliance Education completed and passed with 80% or higher (annual)
- Hepatitis B declination form (annual update)
- TB questionnaire (annual update)
- Hand hygiene and fingernail policies reviewed and acknowledged prior to start
- Dress code policy reviewed and acknowledged prior to start
Competency & Skills
- Unit-specific competency exam required annually
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
- Color blind testing online required (must score 100%)
- Skills checklist required within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology unit)
References & History
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application required
- Performance evaluations may be requested but not mandatory for extensions or per diem
Contract Length
- 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
