Description

Occupational Therapist (Contract)

Location: Bethel, Alaska
Specialty: Rehabilitation Therapy
Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)


Position Summary

  • Provide full-time outpatient and inpatient occupational therapy care, including some work at a local Long Term Care facility.
  • Treat all patient age ranges and diagnoses within Alaska’s occupational therapy scope of practice.
  • Includes home visits, village travel, and frequent collaboration with medical providers.
  • Requires strong didactic skills due to Alaska’s Direct Access privilege for occupational therapy.
  • Incorporate evidence-based medicine into patient care plans.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct, patient care ethics, and respect for cultural diversity.
  • Modify patient care plans using age-specific and patient-specific considerations.

Qualifications

  • Valid Occupational Therapist license in Alaska
  • Current certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy

Work Environment & Equipment

  • Hospital-based: Standard OT department with hi-lo table, therapeutic exercise equipment, ultrasound, electrical stimulation modalities, and ADL training room (bathroom and kitchen).
  • Village-based: Typically a treatment table provided; therapist brings necessary supplies (theraband, exercise programs, etc.).
  • Office equipment such as computer, telephone, fax, and copy machine.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret occupational therapy literature and medical journals.
  • Ability to compose patient care documentation and medical correspondence.
  • Effective communication with medical staff, peers, administrative personnel, and culturally diverse patients (including non-English speakers).

Additional Requirements

  • Private housing is not provided; housing consists of shared units. No pets allowed.
  • Airfare initially paid by candidate or agency, reimbursed upon arrival.
  • New Employee Orientation held every Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • Candidates cannot travel until all credentials are received and cleared.
  • Required immunizations: Hepatitis A & B, Varicella, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, T-Dap, Polio (or titers/historical records).
  • Must provide: Photo ID, Social Security card, professional license/certification, education transcripts, background check results (national and criminal), 10-panel drug screen (within 90 days), competency checklist, OIG report, SAM report, National Sex Offender registry search, OSHA report, OFAC report, fit test or physical, emergency contact info, and 3 references.
  • Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccinations is mandatory.

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful. She helped me with onboarding and getting used to the timesheet app and she answers my texts promptly, even after hours. She is a great recruiter liason. Gladys was a super helpful with onboarding and Denise will hook you up with benefits with no trouble at all. Great team to work with.

Cons

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
