Registered Nurse (PCU/Stepdown) - Akron, Ohio (Travel/Contract)

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months of recent permanent experience in PCU/Stepdown prior to travel assignment
  • Must hold a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license
  • AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation
  • Must carry a government-issued photo ID while on assignment

Certifications & Training

  • Required:
    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) - Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable
    • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable
    • Pass/Fail ECG & Medication Testing during orientation (SafeMedicate)
    • Unit-specific competency exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
    • Annual acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual
    • State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start
    • NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
    • NIH Stroke Certification preferred for PCU/Stepdown
  • Preferred (not required):
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) for ER
    • CHEMO certification not required for Oncology
    • CNOR preferred for RNFAs (not applicable here)

Background & Compliance

  • Background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide)
    • Education verification (international verifications require CGFNS documentation)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually
    • Must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract
    • Facility will conduct additional fingerprinting onsite
    • Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending if completed prior to start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including eye exam and color-blind testing (for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
  • Fit mask (N95) fit testing within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)

Documentation & Onboarding

  • Must complete all required onboarding modules prior to start (typically takes multiple days)
  • Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video must be watched before testing
  • Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background)
  • References: 2 references from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail testing during orientation (ECG and medication)
  • Candidates with gaps longer than 6 months since last Cleveland Clinic contract may have additional requirements
  • Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times during assignment
  • Facility uses Qualivis – Lotus system for submitting hours worked

This position is ideal for experienced PCU/Stepdown RNs with current Ohio or compact state licenses seeking a night shift travel contract in Akron, Ohio.
