Occupational Therapist (Travel/Contract)

Location: Brookings, Oregon

Job Description

  • Work Monday-Friday with a mix of outpatient services in Brookings and support in Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) and inpatient settings.
  • Provide outpatient occupational therapy services in Brookings and California.
  • Additional inpatient weekend coverage required at hospital.

Certifications & Licensure Required

  • Occupational Therapist (OT) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification

Job Summary

  • Assess, plan, organize, and participate in rehabilitative programs to help patients build or restore vocational, homemaking, daily living skills, and general independence.
  • Gain patient and family cooperation through competent assessment, monitoring, care, and communication.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations to ensure privacy and safety.
  • Provide clinical supervision to assistants and aides; serve as clinical instructor for students.

Key Responsibilities

Rehabilitation Services

  • Plan and conduct occupational therapy programs for patients impaired by illness, injury, or developmental problems.
  • Complete and document patient evaluations and tests per standards and regulations.
  • Develop and update patient Plans of Care based on assessments and diagnoses.
  • Provide and progress treatment per Plan of Care.
  • Complete all documentation related to charge capture.
  • Coordinate patient care with other providers and support team members.
  • Work flexible shifts as needed.
  • Supervise assistants/aides and instruct students clinically.

Clerical

  • Prepare and complete accurate documentation of therapy performed in medical and departmental records.
  • May perform general clerical tasks such as answering phones, updating appointments, and managing electronic health records (EHR).

Safety

  • Participate in quality improvement and interdisciplinary projects.
  • Maintain a clean, safe working environment; clean and disinfect equipment after use.
  • Inspect and use equipment per manufacturer guidelines; report malfunctions.

Compliance

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Administer and document services in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Retain certifications and complete continuing education to meet accreditation and licensure requirements.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program (equivalent experience may be accepted).

Background Checks & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and other regulatory screenings.
  • Annual updates required for certain checks (e.g., EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, FACIS Level 3).
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids for CA workers).
  • Employment history verification for up to 7 years with no gaps over 30 days.

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • CCRN (Critical Care RN)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • IV Certification (as applicable)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • State License verification within 30 days of start
  • National tech certification (if applicable)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared for work.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (exceptions apply).
  • Immunizations and/or titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B series or declination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start.
