Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU
Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: RN in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Start Date: Next applicable orientation date (3-4 weeks out)
- Minimum Experience: 2 years in PCU required, ICU experience also needed
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
- Certifications Required at Time of Submission:
- AHA BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS (must be obtained prior to start)
- Floating: Yes, within scope to all 3 nearby hospitals (within 20 miles)
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes, same rate applies
- Pending License Accepted: Yes
- Guaranteed Hours:
- 36 hours for 3x12 shifts
- 40 hours for 8/10 shifts
- Special Requirements:
- Epic experience level 3 or 4 required
- Familiarity with cardiac drips required
- Time-sensitive training modules must be prioritized immediately upon assignment confirmation
- Facility is Smoke-Free: All travelers must be nicotine-free (negative 10 panel drug screen + nicotine test required)

Required Documentation & Compliance
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA provider card or RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA provider card or RQI acceptable (required for PCU)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS): Required for PCU, must be completed annually
- Other certifications may apply depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, Chemo, EFM) but not required for this role
Background Checks
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan accepted nationwide)
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10 panel drug screen including nicotine within 1 year of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
- COVID-19 vaccination required (2 doses Pfizer/Moderna or 1 dose J&J), no declinations allowed; medical/religious exemptions accepted with approved documentation
Other Requirements
- 2 professional references within 2 years of start (for travel and acute care positions)
- Employment application and skills checklist as applicable
- Pass/Fail testing (EKG/Medication) administered during orientation for RNs
- Completion of online onboarding modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
- Epic training and time-sensitive modules must be completed promptly
Notes
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront; late requests are unlikely to be approved
- Facility enforces strict nicotine-free policy with required drug testing
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
- Orientation and onboarding may take multiple days; candidates should prioritize completing all required modules and documentation promptly
