Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

Position Details
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6)

- Call Requirements:
- Call shifts required (6 call shifts in a 6-week period, can vary)
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- No block scheduling
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Trauma Level I Experience: Required
- Must have at least 1 year in Level 1 trauma experience (screen > 2 years total experience)
- Circulate role: Required
- Scrub role: Preferred
- Areas of Float: Most areas except Cardiovascular (CV) & Transplant
- Unit Information: Core 3 & 4 units including General, Plastic, Gynecology, ENT, Trauma, Neuro, Orthopedics, GU, Colorectal Robotics
- Average Daily Census: 70-80 patients
- Number of Rooms: 21
Licensing & Certification Requirements
- Must have an active Indiana state nursing license (no pending licenses accepted)
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, NIH Stroke, EFM as applicable per unit
- Additional Competencies:
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Unit Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent)

- Facility Type: Short-Term Acute Care
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Provided
- Parking: Free
- Note: Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RN travelers are generally restricted from working at IU Health facilities except for Periop/OR RN travelers and certain allied/ambulatory RN roles (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS) who are exempt and allowed to work past this date.
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start date
- Fit Mask Test: Required within 12 months, must be tested with approved respirators (3M N95 models, Honeywell N95, etc.)
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended (preferred)
- Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31); no declinations accepted except approved medical/religious exemptions
- Tuberculosis Screening: Negative TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray required if positive test history
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Background Checks:
- Must include 7 years of residence/work history
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education Verification and Transcript/Diploma required
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
Additional Requirements
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Employment Application: Must be current and explain any gaps of 30 days or more
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months of start and annually thereafter
- Facility-Specific Documents & Orientation:
- Completion of various compliance checklists, confidentiality agreements, and orientation packets required prior to start
- Mandatory completion of 22 RRT modules for Respiratory Therapists (if applicable) before orientation
- Trauma Level I experience and well-rounded OR skills are essential for this role
Notes
- Locals accepted; travelers residing within Indiana may have adjusted pay rates (not included here)
- Must provide 2-3 days of interview availability when submitting candidates
- Floating may include multiple surgical specialties except CV and Transplant
- On-site Fit Testing is limited and only available as a last resort at certain campuses
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with trauma experience looking for a travel contract in a high-acuity, Level I trauma center environment.
