Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Ashtabula, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: ICU at a regional medical center
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Experience: Minimum 18 months ICU experience required
  • License: Must have permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand
  • Electronic Health Record: Must have Epic experience

Required Certifications

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) - Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable
  • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable
  • NIH Stroke Certification (must obtain prior to start)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - preferred depending on unit
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required for certain units (L&D, NICU, etc.)
  • Other certifications may be required or preferred depending on unit (e.g., TNCC preferred for ER)

Note: Certifications expiring within 30 days of start must be renewed prior to assignment.


Licensure & Verification

  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Must carry valid government-issued photo ID during assignment

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check required prior to start, including FCRA compliant 7-year search
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting within 12 months required and must be updated annually
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite
  • Education verification required for all candidates

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite on first day of orientation; annual renewals onsite
  • Tdap vaccine required every 10 years (medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case)
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold) or chest x-ray if prior positive, within 12 months
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters if titers negative or equivocal
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B - titer, series, or declination on record
  • Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required year-round (deadline 11/1)
  • COVID-19 vaccine no longer required

Competency & Training

  • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency as applicable
  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement

Employment History & References

  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area
  • Two professional references within 1 year of start required (from manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all onboarding and compliance requirements promptly to avoid delays
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification to ensure latex-free supplies availability

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, with strong Epic EHR skills and current certifications. The role offers day shifts with a 13-week contract length.
