Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Belleville, Illinois
Facility Type: Acute Care, Magnet Hospital
Unit Beds: 19 staffed beds on unit (222 in facility)
Shift: 12-hour day shifts (MS/Tele)
Start Date: 3-4 weeks from compliance tier, biweekly start dates
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Ratios:
    • Days: 1:4-5
    • Nights: 1:4-6
    • Weekends: 1:4-6
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First Timers Accepted: Yes
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • On-call: No
  • Float: Yes, float within scope to Memorial Belleville/Memorial East (Shiloh) as needed
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (local radius rule: 75 miles)
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours:
    • 36 hours/week for 3 shifts of 12 hours
    • 48 hours/week for 4 shifts of 12 hours
  • Special Requirements: IV Start and Med/Surg experience required
  • Scrub Color: Navy blue
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Parking: Free

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, MAB, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification) — check unit-specific requirements
  • State License verification and NURSYS verification required
  • IV Certification required for LPN/LVN in Missouri facilities (not required in Illinois)

Compliance & Background Checks

  • Government-issued ID required (e.g., Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Criminal Background Check within 6 months, including:
    • Statewide searches
    • Nationwide and sex offender checks
    • International searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required quarterly
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • State-specific exclusion and registry checks as applicable
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include a full panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required
  • Fit mask testing required annually (N95 respirators)

Facility-Specific Documents & Policies

  • HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, Hep B Declination (annual updates required)
  • Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)
  • Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
  • TB screening: Two negative PPDs or equivalent testing within 1 year, with yearly TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella - positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption required; no exemptions allowed in certain units (e.g., Neonatal ICU)
  • Hepatitis B declination required (vaccination not mandatory)

Competency Requirements

  • Unit-specific competency exams required annually (e.g., Oncology competency for Med Surg-Oncology unit)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blind testing required (online exam)

References & History

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for extensions or per diem
