Position Details
- Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D) Registered Nurse
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Experience Required:
- Preferred: Minimum 2 years experience for independent night shift work
- Considered: 1 to 1.5 years experience if worked on a high risk/high census L&D unit
- Shift: Night shift (independent work expected)
- Floating: Yes, may float between units based on needs (including Milwaukie, Newberg, Portland, Hood River, Willamette Falls, Seaside, and Saint Vincent)
- On-call: Yes, 1 low census shift per pay period
- Weekends: Required every other or every third weekend
- Patient Ratios:
- Labor: 1:1
- Postpartum: 1:3
- 48-hour shifts: Not approved
- Vehicle: Must have a vehicle for assignment
- Scrub Color: Any color allowed except OR/Critical Care/ED/Maternal Child where scrubs are provided
Floating & Incentives
- Floating to other units/facilities is common and required based on skill set and unit needs
- Floating to Seaside facility includes a $5/hr incentive plus IRS mileage reimbursement
- Consecutive floating shifts may include hotel accommodations
- Facility will provide as much notice as possible for floating assignments
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Current certification from AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – AWHONN or NCC-EFM certification (EFM certification or Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment exam required for L&D RNs)
- Chemotherapy Certification (if applicable)
- IV Certification (if applicable)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) (if applicable)
- NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) (if applicable)
- State Nursing License – Valid and verified (NURSYS verification required for RNs)
Required Background & Compliance Checks
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Education verification for nursing degree (or related degree for allied/non-clinical)
- State-specific searches as applicable (e.g., Oregon Abuse/Neglect, Washington WATCH/WSP, OBRA Registry for CNAs in WA)
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/Subcontractors)
- Skills checklist updated annually (applicable units)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually (travel only)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable documentation
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable documentation
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination (required if onsite)
- Respiratory safety clearance for respirator use (travel only)
Training & Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
- Color Blind Testing (if required by unit)
- Competency exams as required by specialty
- Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring Assessment or valid EFM certification for L&D RNs
- Medication Aide exam for CNAs in LTC specialty at specific Oregon assisted living facilities
- Providence-specific WorkRamp training modules (Core, Specialty, Regional, and Annual Regulatory Requirements) must be completed prior to start or as assigned
- Epic training modules required for charting system proficiency
Additional Notes
- Floating policy acknowledgment required
- Must comply with Providence Health and Services system policies and procedures
- Badge photo required for facility access
- Must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high acuity L&D environment with variable census
- Facility uses Epic for electronic charting
This position is ideal for experienced L&D RNs comfortable with night shifts, floating, and working independently in a high-risk, high-census environment. Compliance with all certifications, background checks, health requirements, and training modules is mandatory.
