Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center
Unit: Cardiac ICU (CTICU)
Job Details
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s only)
- Start Date: ASAP
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Ratios: Average 1:2 patient ratio for both day and night shifts
- Experience Required:
- Minimum 3 years of Cardiac ICU experience (required)
- At least 1 year of experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center
- Proficiency with Swan-Ganz monitoring
- First-time Travelers: Accepted if they have Cardio Thoracic ICU and/or critical care experience
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
Required Certifications
- NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)

Compliance & Credentialing Requirements
Background Checks
- 7-year criminal background check (must be updated annually) including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national sex offender, national criminal, federal extended checks
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Foreign Equivalency Education Evaluation required for internationally educated RNs
- Education verification including official transcripts if third-party verification unavailable
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for ICU, telemetry, MS/Tele, ER)
Health Documents
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination preferred for certain specialties
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Annual TB Questionnaire
- Immunizations: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (with booster requirements if titers low)
- 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- COVID vaccination series preferred

- Patient Bedside Rounding Module
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
- AME Blood Administration Module (annual update required)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for most clinical roles)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required starting 5/31/2024)
- EPIC Testing or Training (optional but highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience)
Employment History & Verification
- 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
- Verification of last 7 years of employment required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024
- Skills Checklist required within 12 months of start
- Attestation of Prior Radiation Exposure required for certain tech and specialty roles
Additional Notes
- This is a high acuity cardiac ICU requiring knowledgeable and experienced RNs.
- Candidates must be prepared for a rigorous credentialing and compliance process.
- Floating within scope is expected to meet facility needs.
- Block scheduling is not available.
- Weekend work is every other weekend.
