Registered Nurse (Cardiac Floor) - Travel/Contract
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of cardiac floor experience. Night shift, 36 hours only. Contract length between 13-26 weeks accepted.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 2 years on cardiac floor required
- Traveler experience required unless >24 months cardiac experience
- Skills:
- Cardiac Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown
- Sheath Removal
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Post MI care, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath
- Manage and titrate cardiac drips
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP, Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management
Preferred Skills
- Arterial line management
- Wound Care/Wound Vac
- Charge nurse experience
Certifications
- BLS & ACLS required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
Work Details
- Ratios:
- 1:4 for surgical step down
- 1:5-6 for lower acuity patients
- Shift: Nights only, 36 hours per week
- Float: Will follow unit rotation, not first to float
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekends per 4 weeks (flexible)
- Must participate in Storm/Hurricane Team and may be required to work during catastrophic events or disasters

- Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman procedure)
- VATS, Carotid endarterectomy
- FEM-POP bypass, Amputations, other vascular surgeries
- Cardiac and thoracic surgeries
- Post cardiac catheterization, DCCV, electrophysiology procedures
- Pacemaker placements

Orientation & Dress Code
- Unit Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs: Navy
Testing & Compliance
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific registry searches required within 90 days of start
- Drug screening required within 30 days of start
- Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (or 30 days if past positive TB)
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB screening, Flu vaccination or approved exemption
- COVID-19 vaccine no longer required for travel staff as of 6/8/2023
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam must be passed with 82% or higher within 72 hours of assignment
Additional Notes
- Contract staff must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation modules prior to start
- Must complete Medication Safety training and other facility-specific documents before starting
- Candidates will be assigned a Novant Health Corp ID and must complete I-Learn account setup prior to start
- Candidates must be prepared to work in a disaster or mass casualty event if required
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel acute care nurses
