Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Salina, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years required
  • EMR: MEDITECH experience required (no exceptions)
  • Floating: Required to float first to Med-Surg/ED for inpatient holds or ICU step-down patients
    • Care for Med Surg/Tele patients in these areas
    • When floated to ED, care for ED inpatient holds only
    • When floated to ICU, care for Progressive Care or Med Surg/Tele patients
    • No ICU or ED status patients
  • Unit: 23-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Patient Types: Post-op cardiac patients, ICU step-down
  • Schedule: Every other weekend required (every third weekend possible depending on staffing)
  • Travelers: First-time travelers accepted
  • Time Off: Must submit all time off requests at time of application
  • Previous Employees: Prior employees of this facility are not eligible

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certification required
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification required
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Annual requirement for all RNs (exceptions apply)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Preferred but not required
  • TNCC preferred
  • Other preferred certifications (not required):
    • TNCC
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if applicable
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) if applicable
    • CHEMO for Oncology RNs
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) for Labor & Delivery

Compliance & Documentation

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
    • FACIS Level III screening required within 30 days of start
  • Licensure:
    • State RN license verification required (primary source verification)
    • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 30 days of start, signed by MD/DO/PA/ARNP confirming ability to perform essential job functions
    • N95 Fit Test within 12 months (can be completed onsite during orientation if needed)
    • Immunizations and titers:
      • Tdap (within last 10 years) required for Birth Center/NICU staff; recommended for others
      • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
      • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) positive titer or 2-dose vaccine series required
      • Hepatitis B positive titer, completed vaccine series, or declination form required
      • Varicella positive titer or 2-dose vaccine series required
      • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
      • COVID-19 vaccine required or medical/religious exemption accepted
  • Drug Testing:
    • 10-panel drug screen including marijuana within 30 days of start (SAMHSA certified, MRO reviewed)
  • References:
    • Two professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
  • Other:
    • Photo for badge required
    • Completion of facility-specific Healthstream modules (~8 hours) required prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Must adhere to a 100-mile radius rule for mileage approval (reviewed case-by-case)
  • Prior employees of the facility are not eligible for this travel position
  • All time off requests must be submitted with application
  • Facility does not accept instant background checks as placeholders; full background check must be on file before start

This position is ideal for RNs with Meditech experience looking for a travel opportunity in a progressive care setting with a focus on Med-Surg/Tele patients and floating responsibilities.
