Description
Job Opportunity: Mammographic Technologist (Travel/Contract)
Location: Portland, Oregon
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
The Mammographic Technologist performs mammography and general radiology imaging procedures according to physician orders. The role requires proficiency in mammography, including screening, diagnostic exams, and stereotactic procedures.
Work Schedule
- Typical hours: Variable, usually 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Possible opening/closing shifts and Saturday shifts (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
- On-call rotation every 3 weeks (Friday 6:00 PM through Saturday 12:00 PM) shared with 2 other techs
Key Responsibilities
- Position patients for diagnostic imaging following department protocols
- Operate imaging equipment, set exposure factors and techniques to ensure quality images with minimal repeats
- Use computer image processing to optimize images
- Present exams and patient information to radiologists for diagnosis
- Assist with patient transport using standard procedures
- Perform full range of mammographic exams: screening, diagnostic, ductograms, needle localizations, specimen radiographs, stereotactic core and localization
- Perform quality control and assurance to meet MQSA standards
- Maintain accurate documentation and labeling of images and patient data
- Follow radiation safety standards and universal precautions
- Communicate effectively with adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Adhere to all departmental policies and service excellence standards
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited 2-year Radiologic Technology program or equivalent prerequisite training
Experience
- Minimum 6 consecutive months of breast imaging experience within the last year
- Experience with breast screening, diagnostic exams, ductograms, needle localizations, specimen radiographs, stereotactic procedures
- Preferred: Experience in Digital Mammography
Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Radiological Technologist (ARRT) required
- Current Oregon state licensure required
- Must meet MQSA mammography requirements
- ARRT Mammography certification required within 6 months of hire
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA provider only)
- Current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging license
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid government-issued photo ID required on first day
- Background check within 6 months prior to start, including education and work history verification
- National Sex Offender Search and other federal/state checks required
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel with methamphetamines listed, within 3 months prior to start
- Physical exam (within 1 year) required to meet Aya Healthcare standards
- Fit mask test required within 1 year prior to start (N95 or equivalent)
- Immunizations and titers required or signed declinations for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- TB testing: Negative 2-step PPD, TSPOT, or QGOLD within 12 months, with TB questionnaire
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required
- COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask use and signed form
- References: Two manager or supervisor references from last 24 months required
- Employment application with 7 years of work history required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be fully available for compliance needs up to start date
- Professional appearance policy must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules required before badge issuance
- Onsite respirator clearance and fit testing may be required if not completed prior to start
- Candidates must complete required competency exams with a minimum score of 85%
