Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Specialty: Registered Nurse – ED Boarder, MS Tele RN
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, Night shift (1900-0730)
- Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
- Patient Population: Care for patients boarding in the Emergency Department awaiting inpatient bed placement
- Experience Required:
- Minimum 2 years in MS/Telemetry or Cardiac Tele nursing
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Competency Exam:
- Must pass Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with at least 80% overall and 100% on lethal rhythms
- Additional Notes:
- May come into contact with COVID-19 patients
- Flu vaccine is mandatory for all employees
Required Credentials & Compliance
Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC certified
- NIH Stroke Certification (based on unit)
- Other certifications as required by unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) depending on assignment
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (score ≥ 80%) within 3 years
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias Dysrhythmia Basics A) within 1 year, updated annually
- Color Blind Testing (online or in-person)
- General Competency Exam (score ≥ 80%) within 3 years
Background Checks & Verifications
- Criminal background check within 90 days including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start and monthly thereafter
- Education verification of highest degree required by position
- Employment history verification with minimum 2 years experience in past 7 years
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience in last 3 years
- I9 and E-Verify attestation required upon hire
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Negative TB test (IGRA or PPD) within 1 year, updated annually; chest x-ray if history of positive TB
- Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred
- Documentation of immunity or vaccination for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept-Mar)
- COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask use during patient encounters
- Drug screen within 90 days of start, includes multiple substances (excluding marijuana), updated annually
Other Requirements
- Valid state nursing license prior to start
- Valid driver’s license if driving is an essential job function
- Annual acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual
- Facility-specific training modules (Sitels) to be completed by hire date
Work Environment & Additional Information
- Facility requires flu vaccination for all employees
- Candidates must be prepared to float to other units as needed
- May encounter COVID-19 patients; appropriate PPE and protocols in place
- Photo for badge required (clear, well-lit, no glare, solid background)
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with telemetry or cardiac experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a fast-paced Emergency Department setting and meeting rigorous certification and competency requirements.
