Job Opportunity: Obstetric Assistant (Travel)

Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Summary

An integral member of the obstetrical team assisting in the care of obstetrical patients by performing delegated tasks to provide basic nursing care and support surgeons during operative procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Certifications/Licenses: BLS certification required
• Experience:

  • Surgical Tech experience required
  • Preferably with C-section experience
  • One year Nursing Assistant experience preferred and/or completion of Nursing Assistant course within one year
  • Two years hospital experience preferred
• Skills: Completion of competency-based skills checklist

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in Labor and Delivery patient care and surgical support
• Identify and report breaks in sterile technique
• Prepare and manage surgical equipment and supplies according to surgeon’s preference
• Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations
• Demonstrate aseptic technique and adhere to AORN Standards of Care
• Provide personal care assistance to patients (bathing, dressing, feeding, transportation)
• Maintain patient records including vital signs and medical treatment documentation
• Participate in educational programs and inservice meetings
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and unit care data
• Communicate effectively with patients, coworkers, and management
• Assist with special projects and adapt to changes in work environment or schedule
• Adhere to all patient and environmental safety policies and procedures

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Exposure to infectious diseases and x-rays
• Irregular hours with multiple simultaneous patient care activities
• Prolonged standing and walking; occasional lifting, positioning, pushing, and transferring of patients or equipment
• Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination required
• Ability to handle emergency/crisis situations

• Responsible to Manager, Women’s Services
• Backfill replacement position
