Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Neuro Trauma ICU
Location: Springfield, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Unit: Neuro Trauma ICU (also floats to CVICU, Telemetry, Acute Care, Obs, ED boarding)
- Start Date: December 8
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Experience Required:
- Minimum 2 years preferred (1 year considered if recent experience in a large facility)
- Recent Epic experience required
- Experienced travelers with 2-3 prior completed assignments preferred
- Weekend Requirement: Flexible scheduling based on unit needs
- On-call: Not required
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Locals Accepted: No

Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation) preferred (TNCC/TCAR required 1 year after assignment start if working in Neuro Trauma ICU)
- CCRN, CSC, SCRN, TCRN preferred
- Must have all required certifications in hand before start date
Required Skills & Experience
- Previous trauma nursing experience
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Multi-system organ failure management
- Thermoregulation (hypothermia/hyperthermia)
- Pre/Post cardiac catheterization/intervention care
- IV insulin protocols
- Chronic and acute renal failure care
- Arterial line, central line, and PICC line management
- Starting IVs and continuous IV sedation
- Emergency medication administration and procedural sedation
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun management
- BiPAP, CPAP assistance
- Chest tube insertion/removal assistance
- Care of ventilated patients, including ventilator management and suctioning (ETT, NT)
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) management
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions (PPE use)
- Surgical wound care with drains and wound vac
- Temporary pacer management (required)

- Cerebrovascular accident (CVA)
- Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)
Special Procedures on Unit
- Chest tube insertion
- Central line and PICC placement
- Bedside tracheostomy
- Keo tube placement
- Intraosseous (IO) insertion
- Code blue response and massive transfusion team participation
- Backup for hospital cardiac arrest team
- Intubation
- Post cardiac arrest cooling catheter placement
- Use of Nitric Oxide and cardiac cooling pads
- Removal of femoral and radial sheaths

- Pulmonary artery catheters
- Right and left Impella devices
- Ventilators
- Cheeta (likely a device or system)
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
- Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
- Zoll cooling catheter
- Arctic Sun cooling pads

Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must sign Social Security verification release
- Background checks required within 60 days of start (7-year search including SSN trace, counties/states lived/worked, federal and national criminal checks)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required 15 days prior to start and every 45 days thereafter
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test required within 1 year and updated annually (N95 fit testing onsite if providing patient care)
- Drug testing required within 30 days of start (specific panels required)
- Immunizations and health documents required: Tdap, negative TB or chest X-ray, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu vaccine or declination, COVID vaccine or religious exemption if applicable
- Orientation manual and quiz must be completed prior to start with 100% score
- Must comply with facility dress code, masking policy, and personnel restrictions due to illness
- Passport-style photo required for badge
- Must complete facility-specific orientation modules and checklists prior to start
- Travelers must be flexible with floating between units and accommodating block schedules
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Trauma ICU RNs with strong critical care skills, trauma experience, and recent Epic EMR proficiency, seeking a 13-week travel assignment in a busy Level II Trauma Center in Oregon.
