Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Neuro Trauma ICU)

Location: Springfield, Oregon
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Neuro Trauma ICU
  • Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 2 years preferred
    • 1 year considered if recent experience in a large facility
  • Epic Experience: Recent Epic experience required
  • First-Time Travelers: Not accepted; prefer experienced travelers with 2-3 prior assignments
  • Weekend Requirement: Must be flexible, scheduled based on unit needs
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to CVICU, Telemetry, Acute Care (neurology, surgical, ortho/med), Obs, ED boarding; 4-hour orientation provided
  • Block Scheduling: Flexible candidates preferred
  • Locals: Not accepted
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Origin Restrictions: None
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TNCC or TCAR (required 1 year after start date in this unit)
  • Other preferred: CCRN, CSC, SCRN, TCRN

Required Skills & Experience

  • Previous trauma experience
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Multi-system organ failure management
  • Thermoregulation (hypothermia/hyperthermia)
  • Pre/Post cardiac catheterization/intervention care
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Chronic/acute renal failure management
  • Arterial line, central line, PICC line care and management
  • Starting IVs, continuous IV sedation
  • Emergency medications and procedural sedation administration
  • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun management
  • Assist with BiPAP, CPAP, chest tube insertion/removal
  • Care of ventilated patients, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
  • Interpretation of ABGs, suctioning (ETT, NT)
  • Ventilator management
  • Infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE use
  • Surgical wounds with drains/Wound Vac care
  • Temporary pacer management

  • Alcohol withdrawal (ETOH withdraw)
  • Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Sepsis
  • COVID-19
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and acute kidney injury (AKI)
  • Donor care
  • Post cardiac arrest care
  • Psychiatric symptoms
  • Multi-system organ failure (MSOF)
  • Cerebrovascular accident (CVA)
  • Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)

Special Procedures on Unit

  • Chest tube insertion
  • Central line and PICC placement
  • Bedside tracheostomy
  • Keo tube placement
  • Intraosseous (IO) insertion
  • Code blue response and massive transfusion team participation
  • Backup for hospital cardiac arrest team
  • Intubation
  • Post cardiac arrest cooling catheter placement
  • Use of Nitric Oxide and cardiac cooling pads
  • Removal of femoral and radial sheaths

Common Equipment

  • Pulmonary artery catheters
  • Right and left Impella devices
  • Ventilators
  • Cheetah monitor
  • Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
  • Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)
  • Zoll cooling catheter
  • Arctic Sun cooling pads

Compliance & Orientation Requirements

  • Background checks including SS verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches as applicable
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations or declinations required for: Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu seasonal vaccine (or approved exemption)
  • Completion of PeaceHealth orientation modules and quizzes with 100% score prior to start
  • Review of facility-specific policies including dress code, masking, personnel restrictions due to illness, and daily responsibilities
  • Submission of required facility-specific documents such as criminal disclosure, demographic form, and confirmation of standards checklist
  • Passport-style photo for badge required

This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Trauma ICU RNs with strong critical care skills, trauma experience, and recent Epic EMR proficiency, seeking a travel contract in a busy Level II Trauma Center.
