Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS Float Pool RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Hours: 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Holiday Rotation: Required
- On Call: Not required
- Float Assignments: Med Surg floors at Main hospital and Ashley River tower
- Patient Ratios: May vary depending on unit assigned
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- License Required: South Carolina RN License or Multi-State/Compact State RN License
- Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Block Schedule: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis

Required Credentials & Documentation
Licensure & Certifications
- RN License: South Carolina or Compact State RN license required; primary source verification needed
- BLS: Required for all clinical staff (AHA or ARC accepted)
- ACLS: Required for certain units (Adult Critical Care, Labor & Delivery, Cath Lab, ER, ICU, Interventional Radiology, PACU, PCU, PreOp, Observation Unit)
- PALS: Required for all Pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR
- NRP: Required (AHA/AAP only)
- TNCC: Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
- CHEMO: Required only for Oncology Hospital Unit (specific unit)
- EFM: Required (AWHONN or NCC accepted)
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and as applicable
- IV Therapy Certification: Required for select LPNs if applicable
- Tech Certifications: Required for Medical Assistants, Phlebotomists, Sterile Processing Techs, Ultrasound Techs, Pathology Assistants, MLTs (ASCP or registry eligible)
Background Checks & Verifications
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if pending
- State-specific search for South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers
- NURSYS verification for all RNs and LPNs/LVNs
- Work history verification for last 3 clinical employers
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+), renewed annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- CBC and Comprehensive Metabolic Panel required for Sterile Processing Techs
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
- Physical assessment form required for Sterile Processing Techs
- Radiation badge required for certain specialties (e.g., CVOR, Cath Lab, Radiation Oncology)
- Medication and competency exams as applicable, including pharmacology and OR competency exams
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
Additional Notes
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Candidates with more than 7 days of requested time off (RTO), including holidays, require facility approval which may delay the process
- Travelers should be aware of potential emergency assignments during hurricane season (June-November)
- Locals may be considered but at a reduced rate and on a case-by-case basis
