Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work on a mixed acuity unit caring for advanced care level patients, including those on advanced drips.
- Experience with advanced care/step-down units preferred.
- Target patient ratios typically 1:4, can be up to 1:5-6.
- Unit may use a team nursing model (RNs, LPNs, PCTs working together) or primary nursing depending on unit needs.
- Must float to all Stepdown/Advanced Care units within the hospital system.
- Floating may include multiple campuses within approximately 15 miles radius.
- No block scheduling; 36 or 48-hour shifts accepted (OT paid after 48 hours).
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
- No local candidates accepted; no travel partners allowed.
- No more than 7 days of Return to Office (RTO) approved.
- Must pass an online EKG Tele competency assessment prior to starting.
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum 1.5 years nursing experience; 2 years preferred.
- Experience in a large hospital, Level 1 trauma center preferred; Level 2 accepted.
- Travel nursing experience preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips.
- NIH Stroke Certification required (must be current within 12 months).
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the HRRU unit unless PAPR is needed/offered.
- Medical exemptions for contract not accepted.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (AHA only)
- ACLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Certification (updated annually)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must pass with 80% or higher within 3 attempts)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 2 years)
- Unit-specific Competency Exam (within 2 years)
- Other certifications as applicable (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) depending on unit assignment.
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- I-9 and E-Verify completed on branded forms.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG.
- Fingerprinting required only for select units (not required for this assignment).
- Education verification and licensure primary source verification required.
- Ohio nursing license verification required.
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for duty.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray documentation.
- Immunizations or immunity documentation for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B.
- Drug screening within 12 months, including marijuana panel; must be negative.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Respiratory safety clearance and medical questionnaire required prior to orientation.
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years (1 must be manager/supervisor/charge nurse).
- Current resume/application required.
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year.

- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.
- Must be willing to float as assigned by Premier Health discretion.
