Job Description
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of acute care experience.
- First Time Travelers: Accepted.
- Shift/Holidays: Work every other holiday and weekend; must be available to work 2 out of 3 holidays.
- Patient Ratio: 1:1-2.
- Patient Mix: Fresh open heart surgery patients (CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR), ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, chronic and acute renal failure.
- Floats To: All ICUs, PACU, ED for ICU holding patients, and all IMC units.
- Scheduling: No block scheduling.
- Locals: Accepted.
Required Skills and Certifications
Clinical Skills:
- CVICU experience with fresh open hearts (CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR).
- Assist with BiPAP and CPAP.
- Chest tube insertion/removal assistance.
- 12 lead EKG interpretation.
- Post-op open heart recovery care.
- Experience with Swan-Ganz catheters, FloTrac, temporary pacers, arterial lines, ventilators, chest tubes.
- Experience with devices such as Impella, IABP, and CRRT using Prismaflex.
- SICU experience may be considered with initial CVICU training.
Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start.
- Must include all aliases, locations lived/worked in past 7 years, sex offender registry, nationwide and federal checks.
- Pending background checks require attestation at start.
- MVR/DMV hits do not require facility review for this location.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and for every contract renewal.
Health Documents:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen).
- Seasonal influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start.
- Immunizations and titers required: Hepatitis B, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination.
Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 72 hours of signing.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for critical care and telemetry units.
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation process.
Additional Training and Certifications:
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs.
- NIH Stroke Certification required for adult critical care specialties, ED, Telemetry, and MS/Tele units.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications required for applicable pediatric and neonatal units.
- Chemotherapy certification required for adult and pediatric chemo nurses as applicable.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required for Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby units.
Facility Specific Requirements
- Must complete floating policy for every new assignment or site transfer.
- Annual education sign-off and completion of facility-specific orientation materials required.
- Vendor medical clearance form required for candidates with history of positive TB.
- Fit test questionnaire must be completed within 48 hours of confirmation.
- Influenza vaccination or exemption attestation required annually.
- Must review and sign elder abuse education and policy attestation prior to start.
References and Work History
- Two references required within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
- Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates, verifying at least 1 year prior to start with no gaps over 30 days.
