Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Columbus, Ohio

Assignment Details
- Unit: Clinical Resource Unit - Oncology/Medical-Surgical Telemetry
- Schedule: 12-night shifts (day/night rotating schedule available)
- Assignment Duration: 13-16 weeks
- Minimum Experience: 2+ years Medical-Surgical level or higher required
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- EPIC experience required
Unit & Patient Population
- Comprehensive Cancer Center with 318 acute care beds
- Inpatient units with 36 beds, specialized by cancer diagnosis
- Floating to MedSurg units including:
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)
- Acute Leukemia
- Hematology
- Medical Oncology
- Gynecological Oncology
- Urology
- Colorectal
- Surgical Oncology
- Corrections Healthcare
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls
Staffing & Orientation
- Staffing ratios goal: 1:4, can be 1:5
- Weekend shifts variable based on unit needs
- No set/blocked scheduling; self-scheduling requests are submitted and balanced before final schedule posting
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday-Friday day shift orientation
- Weeks 2-3: Five bedside orientation shifts
- Then independent practice
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
Required Competencies & Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for Aya candidates prior to start)
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam:
- Required for all RNs within 1 year of start (except certain excluded units)
- Must be updated annually starting 7/14/25
- Minimum passing score 76%
- Remediation process available with up to 3 attempts
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start (including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender, MVR if driving)
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Education accreditation verification required for nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption allowed with documentation
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear mask
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Facility Policies & Training
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
This position offers a specialized oncology and med-surg experience in a comprehensive cancer center with a focus on infection prevention and patient safety. Candidates must meet strict credentialing, background, and health requirements to qualify.
