Registered Nurse (Med Surg - Neuro/Ortho Floor)

Location: Bowling Green, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Med Surg on Neuro/Ortho floor
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Shift: Nights, 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
  • Patient Ratios: 1:6
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • First-timers: Accepted if they have good experience and Ortho/Neuro knowledge
  • Weekend Requirement: To be discussed during interview
  • On-call: Rotation required
  • Block Schedule: Accommodations possible when allowed
  • Local Candidates: Accepted within 65-mile radius
  • License: Must be compliant with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines; pending licenses not accepted
  • Holiday Time Off: Must work weeks of holidays; multiple holiday time-off requests not accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Preference for 48 hours per week
  • Special Requirements: Must have MS Ortho & MS Neuro experience
  • Flu Vaccine: Required, no exemptions allowed

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification (must be completed through APEX)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (RQI acceptable)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (verify with recruiter/unit)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must include SSN trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education verification required; official transcript or diploma may be accepted in lieu of verification on a case-by-case basis
  • State-specific searches including Kentucky Caregiver Misconduct Registry required
  • Drug screening: Negative 13-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable); includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, buprenorphine, cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl, marijuana, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, phencyclidine, tramadol
  • Physical exam required within 1 year, attesting ability to meet physical demands of position
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 2 months of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccines or positive titers, no declinations accepted)
  • Flu vaccine documentation required for 2025-26 season (no exemptions)
  • COVID-19 vaccination, exemption, or declination required for reporting purposes (does not prevent starting)

Documentation and Onboarding

  • Valid Driver’s License, State ID, or Passport required
  • I9 Attestation required
  • E-Verify Attestation required
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
  • Various facility-specific forms and agreements must be reviewed and signed (e.g., confidentiality, computer agreement, health history, communicable disease, privacy acknowledgment)
  • Badge photo required prior to start (specific background and appearance guidelines)
  • Candidate must complete required training modules prior to start
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Complete employment application including 7-year work history
  • Skills checklist and performance evaluations required and must be updated annually
