Registered Nurse - Oncology (Travel/Contract)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet Facility
Beds: 562 staffed beds
Position Details
- Specialty: Oncology
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
- Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year oncology nursing experience
- First-timers Accepted: Yes
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Will float within scope as needed
- Block Scheduling: Schedule requests can be discussed with manager
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- License: Must have active Illinois nursing license or be in application process
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days onsite per week
- Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
Required Certifications & Skills
- Preferred Certifications: Chemotherapy certification, OCN, ONS/ONCC preferred
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (AHA or RQI acceptable)
- BLS (AHA or RQI acceptable)
- PALS (if applicable)
- State License verification and NURSYS verification required
- Chemotherapy Skills:
- Administration of chemotherapy (IV push, continuous infusion, oral)
- Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing abnormal lab values
- IV Therapy/Infusion Skills:
- Accessing ports and central lines (PICC, implanted lines)
- Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood/blood products
- Central line blood draws and care
- Starting IVs
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Facility & Work Environment
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by 11/30
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches within 30 days of start
- Education verification and competency exams required
- Photo for badge required before start
- Code of conduct acknowledgment required
Additional Notes
- Candidates without an Illinois license must complete fingerprinting and Illinois Health Care Worker Registry process prior to start
- References: Two professional references required for clinical candidates
