Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Cardiac ICU preferred)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (36-hour night shifts)
- Weekdays and some weekends with rotating holidays
- Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Saturday/Sunday for dayshift, Friday/Saturday for nightshift)
- No on-call required
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
Patient Ratios
- Estimated 1:1 to 1:2 patient ratio
Experience & Skills Required
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac ICU experience preferred
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Skills: IV start, telemetry, ventilators, Swan-Ganz catheters, conscious sedation, balloon pumps, PA lines
- EPIC electronic health record experience required
- Previous travel experience preferred
Certifications & Competencies
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable)
- PALS (if applicable for ER/OB/Psych units)
- NRP (if applicable for L&D, Post-Partum, OB)
- NIH Stroke Certification (check unit-specific requirements)
- State nursing license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RNs
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required for Aya candidates)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start (including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender, MVR if driving)
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Education accreditation verification required (accredited nursing program from CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
- Transcript or diploma verification required (including foreign education)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: titer or 3-vaccine series or signed declination
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; medical exemptions reviewed
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership
- Employment application required including education details for nursing candidates

Additional Notes
- Floating within units of equivalent or lower acuity is required
- No call responsibilities
- Facility uses EPIC EHR system
- Previous travel experience preferred but not mandatory
This position is ideal for experienced cardiac ICU nurses comfortable with night shifts and weekend rotations, who meet the certification and compliance requirements listed above.
