Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Belleville, Illinois

Job Overview

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Shift: Even/Odd weekend rotation (every other weekend)
  • Patient Ratios: Direct patient care for up to 20 residents; average daily census of 72
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required upon center request
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Not applicable
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Licensure & Certifications

  • License: Must have active nursing license in hand before starting
  • IV Certification: Required before starting
  • BLS/ACLS: Required before starting
  • Pending License: Must provide proof of license
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and unit-specific competency exams required

Job Duties & Environment

  • Work primarily in skilled nursing and rehab units that function similarly to medical-surgical units
  • Care for dementia, surgical, and acute care patients
  • Administer IV medications and provide wound care
  • Collaborate closely with CNAs and HCAs
  • Use lifting equipment as needed
  • Charting system: PowerChart
  • Attire: Any shade of blue scrubs
  • Parking: Free

Special Requirements & Recommendations

  • Rehab experience with strong med/surg and acute care background helpful but not mandatory
  • Dementia training or experience highly recommended
  • Excellent customer service skills essential
  • Must provide ample notice (more than 24 hours) for any call-outs
  • Restrictions on time off requests: Requests must be approved at time of submission; not all holidays can be taken off

Background Checks & Compliance

  • Background checks required within 1 year of start and updated annually, including:
    • Social Security trace
    • County searches for last 7 years
    • Nationwide sex offender check
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • State-specific searches not required for Illinois facilities
  • Photo for badge required prior to start
  • 2 professional references within 2 years required
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (declination accepted)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination series; declination or booster accepted)
    • Hepatitis B (declination accepted)
    • Varicella (vaccination, positive titer, or history of chickenpox)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months, no pending results allowed
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required
  • COVID-19: Fully vaccinated required or approved medical/religious exemption with bi-weekly testing for Illinois candidates

Additional Notes

  • No mileage reimbursement
  • No on-site COVID testing; candidates must maintain and upload testing results if exempt from vaccination
  • Time-sensitive documentation and compliance required for Missouri placements (not applicable here)

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working in a skilled nursing and rehab environment with a med-surg focus, including dementia care. Candidates must be fully licensed and certified prior to starting and able to meet all health and background compliance requirements.
