Job Opportunity: X-Ray Tech / Pediatrics (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology
Facility Type: Teaching Hospital, Magnet, Level 1 Trauma
Facility Size: 865 staffed beds
Shift:
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Holiday rotation included
- First week orientation on day shift before regular schedule begins
- On-call required (must respond within 1 hour when called)
- On-call hours: Mon-Fri 7 PM - 7 AM; weekends 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM
- On-call likely falls on weekends but may cover other days as needed
Floating:
- Floating within pediatric imaging locations on the same campus for critical staffing coverage may be required
Experience & Certifications:
- Minimum 1 year experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Required Certifications/Licenses:
- ARRT (R)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- South Carolina state license must be active prior to start
- Preferred Experience:
- Operating Room (OR) experience
- C-arm experience (training available)
- O-arm experience (training available)
- Trauma and pediatric experience preferred but not required
- Radiation badge required (must be provided by agency; facility does NOT provide)
Contract Length:
- 13 weeks
Work Radius & Locals:
- 60-mile radius rule applies
- Local candidates accepted at 10% less than posted rate
Orientation & Training:
- Orientation modules must be completed prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
- First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules provided after clearance
- Modules typically take 2-6 hours depending on location
Uniform & Charting:
- Scrubs: Teal top / Black bottoms
- Charting system: Epic
Parking:
- Parking fee applies only for nights and weekends ($20 one-time pass)
Hurricane Season:
- June through November (peak August-September)
- All staff may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time
- Travelers advised not to start new assignments during hurricane season if this is a concern
Required Documentation & Compliance
Licensure & Verification
- South Carolina license must be active and unencumbered before start
- Primary source verification required
- NURSYS verification for RNs/LPNs as applicable
- Pending licenses must be resolved prior to start (walk-through/temp license option available under certain conditions)
Background Checks
- Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
- Must include: SSN trace, county checks outside SC, SC statewide, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
Certifications
- BLS (AHA or ARC) required for all clinical staff
- PALS required for all pediatric units (except Peds OR)
- ACLS required for adult critical care units and certain tech roles, not required for pediatric units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as applicable (not required for ER RNs)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification required for ER staff
- IV Therapy certification required for select LPNs if applicable
Health & Immunizations
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with follow-up chest x-ray
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters may be needed for low titers
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Drug screen: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID vaccine not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
Other Requirements
- Radiation badge must be obtained before starting clinical work; process may take 5-7 days
- Color blindness test required prior to start
- Competency exams required, including medication/pharmacology and OR competency as applicable
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge (frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses)
- Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
Additional Notes
- Travelers may be required to float to other pediatric imaging locations on the same campus for coverage
- Facility uses Epic for charting
- Parking fee applies only for nights and weekends
- Orientation modules must be completed on a computer or laptop, not a cell phone
- Travelers must upload vaccination records (COVID, flu) into the facility’s system prior to start
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Travelers with facial hair may be required to shave for fit testing or provide their own PAPR device
