Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Washington, District of Columbia

Job Details

  • Unit: S32 Neuro IMC
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (Day or Night), 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • Float Requirement: Must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years nursing experience
  • Travel Experience: Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
  • Licensure:
    • Pending DC RN license accepted with proof at submission
    • Must have DC RN license in hand prior to start date
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (AHA or ARC)
    • DC RN Licensure
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • ACLS
    • NIHSS
    • BSN

Required Skills

  • Cerner electronic health record system
  • Telemetry and Cardiac Telemetry monitoring
  • PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown unit experience
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Phlebotomy
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • Starting IVs
  • Tracheostomy management
  • Isolation precautions
  • Wound care and wound vac management

Testing Requirements

  • Must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with:
    • Minimum overall score of 80%
    • 100% score on lethal rhythms section
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher) within 3 years
  • Color blind testing (online or in-person)
  • Competency exams updated within 3 years

Orientation & Facility Information

  • Orientation includes:
    • 4-hour class
    • 8-hour modules
    • Two 12-hour clinical shifts
    • Day 4 independent practice
  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
  • Total Staffed Beds: 402
  • Unit Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Scrubs: Not provided; any color allowed without other hospital logos
  • Parking: Available (cost applies)
  • COVID-19: Must be willing to accept assignments including COVID-19 patients

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 90 days, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • E-Verify and I9 documentation required
  • Education verification for highest degree required by position
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start and monthly thereafter
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask use during patient encounters
  • N95 fit test within 9 months of start and updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
  • Immunization documentation required for:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
    • Tdap within 10 years preferred
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes, with annual questionnaire if prior positive history

References & Work History

  • Two positive supervisory references required, including one from most recent assignment
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, licenses, and contact information
  • Must verify minimum 2 years of experience within past 7 years, including at least 1 travel assignment

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with neuro IMC or telemetry background who meet the licensure and certification requirements and are comfortable working in a fast-paced acute care teaching hospital environment.
