Description

Physical Therapist - Home Health

Location: Ketchikan, Alaska
Specialty: Therapy/Rehabilitation
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)


Job Details

  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 5x8 hour days (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, start time flexible)
  • Schedule: Day position, no weekends or on-call required
  • Work Setting: Community-based, patient’s home with office on campus
  • Average Daily Census: 26 patients
  • Top Diagnoses: COPD, CHF, orthopedic procedures (including joint replacements), neurological diseases
  • Floating: May float to hospice within scope if needed; no floating to sister facilities
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Locals Accepted: No
  • Pending State License: Alaska PT License required (compact license accepted)
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 1 year in Home Health or Orthopedic/Aging (OA)
    • 1 year Epic experience preferred
  • First-Timers Accepted: Yes, if OASIS experience is present
  • Vehicle: Reliable vehicle required

Job Summary

  • Evaluate patients and develop treatment plans and goals
  • Provide treatment within the scope of Physical Therapy
  • Modify plans as needed based on patient progress
  • Complete documentation timely and accurately per regulatory and professional standards
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members for coordinated patient care
  • May supervise therapy assistants, aides, volunteers, and provide clinical instruction to students
  • Participate in quality improvement, staff meetings, and educational activities

Education & Credentials

  • Degree: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in Physical Therapy (accredited program or foreign equivalent)
  • Licensure: Valid Alaska Physical Therapist License required
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Independent clinical judgment and patient condition assessment
  • General knowledge of physical therapy field and resource utilization

Compliance & Requirements

  • Background checks including criminal, SS verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Drug testing within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (N95) required for onsite work, updated annually
  • Immunizations and/or declinations required for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption (medical/religious)
  • Orientation modules and quizzes specific to Home Health must be completed with 100% score prior to start
  • Various facility-specific forms and policies must be reviewed and completed prior to start

  • Ketchikan, Alaska offers a mild winter climate compared to much of Alaska due to its maritime location
  • Winter temperatures typically range from 30-40°F
  • Climate is similar to Seattle, WA

  • No on-call or weekend requirements
